Jason Holley – Thinking outside the box; Even though there was never a box

I came across Jason Holley’s illustration in the society of illustrators book. He was a gold medal winner for his illustration Animal Man.

“Art Director Peter Morance called me up with my idea of a dream assignment for The New York Times: “It’s all about animals, and thats all we have at the moment,” he said. It was to be the cover of a special section that would include several articles pertaining animals, and it needed to be an image that could encompass them all. Miraculously, the editors and I  had very similar thoughts about what kind of illustration to make, so the sketch sailed through, and Peter brought the whole thing together brilliantly.”
